I'm quite sure that crime does not only exist within impoverished areas. I will say that the show cannot be criticized for allowing viewers to see what officers do while on their job. But I feel that there is so much emphasis within the Black community. What is sad is the show is viewed as entertainment and nobody is trying to correct why there is so much crime in our communities. The portrayal of African Americans and Latinos with females having uncombed hair all over their heads, improper grammar and speech, drugs, domestic violence, only portrays the African American community in a bad light. Every once in a while you may find Whites and Asians who are on an episode of Cops but usually in impoverish communities who people refer to them as "white trash" for assimilating with minorities in a particular area.
What angered me the most was the following video I ran across. Three white male teens are off the hook for not having license, registrations, and for drug paraphernalia in a car that didn't belong to them. I know for a fact that if this happened in my old neighborhood, someone would have gone to jail.
